Citizens in ActionIn our fall edition of the ‘Wildcat Pride” newsletter, we highlighted the high school’s new elective class entitled “Citizens in Action.” Students have spent the school year researching topics of interest, such as housing availability in Johnson City and Broome County, impacts of sports medicine on female athletes, student awareness of mental health resources at JC, and more.

Today, seniors Delaney Gaughan, Savannah Fajardo-Shabazz and Nyla Ferline shared data in a PowerPoint presentation highlighting factors impacting student representation within AP courses at Johnson City High School.

In addition to speaking in front of their classmates, the students shared their presentation with invited high school administrators and teachers and answered numerous questions about their detailed research.

Students in the Citizens in Action class who complete their project will be awarded the new NYS Seal of Civic Readiness. The class is taught by English Teacher Dr. Donna Geetter and Social Studies Teacher Judy Gleason.
