The Johnson City Central School District has been working with the Broome County Health Department as we have received notification of one confirmed case of COVID-19 involving a student at the elementary school and one confirmed case involving an employee at the middle school.

Per New York State Department of Health guidelines, any person who was in contact with the confirmed cases will be contacted and quarantined for up to 14 days. A contact tracing investigation is underway, and the Health Department will contact those who may have been exposed.

November 5
The Johnson City Central School District will resume in-person/hybrid classes in all buildings beginning Friday, November 6. Only the 'B' students, kindergarten and 'C' students will report on Friday. The JC 'A' students will report on Monday, November 9. The normal hybrid schedule will be followed next week. Full remote students will remain remote and follow their usual schedule.  

November 3

Per New York State Department of Health guidelines, any person who was in contact with the confirmed cases will be contacted and quarantined for up to 14 days. A contact tracing investigation is underway, and the Health Department will contact those who may have been exposed.

October 21
In consultation with the Broome County Health Department and with the current spike in community spread of COVID-19, the Johnson City Central School District will pause in-person/hybrid instruction beginning Thursday, October 22 and pivot to full remote instruction for 14 days. The district will resume in-person instruction on Friday, November 6. Out of an abundance of caution, the district will assess the situation again during the first week of November to determine the safety of returning to the in-person/hybrid schedule.

All staff who are not quarantined or isolated will continue to report to their buildings/departments.

**The Wildcat B group students will receive food delivery Thursday, October 22. the Wildcat A group and full-remote students will receive food delivery on Friday, October 23.** 

October 19
The Johnson City Central School District has been working with the Broome County Health Department as we have received notification of three confirmed cases of COVID-19 involving one student in the middle school, one student in the high school and one employee in the high school. The two students' last day on campus was October 13 and they have not been in contact with school staff or students since that date. The high school employee's last day on campus was October 16 and they have not been in contact with school staff or students since that date.

Per New York State Department of Health guidelines, any person who was in contact with the confirmed cases will be contacted and quarantined for up to 14 days. A contact tracing investigation is underway, and the Health Department will contact those who may have been exposed.

October 8
The Johnson City Middle school will reopen for hybrid instruction on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. Contact tracing has been completed by the Broome County Health Department and the middle school has been cleared to resume in-person learning.

October 6
Please note the following alterations to this week's food delivery schedule.
Tuesday, Oct 6: Middle school B students will receive food delivery.
Wednesday, Oct. 7: District remote students and middle school A and B students will receive food delivery.
Thursday, Oct. 8: Middle school A and B students will receive food delivery.
Friday, Oct. 9: District remote students will receive food delivery.

October 6
On the evening of October 5, 2020, we were notified that the district has a confirmed case of COVID-19 involving an employee who works in the middle school. In order to give proper time for contact tracing, the middle school will move to a full remote learning model for the remainder of the week (through October 9).

In discussions with the Broome County Health Department, any person who was in direct or proximate contact with the individual has been and will be advised to quarantine. The district is working in consultation with the BCHD on proper procedures for all faculty, staff and students regarding quarantining and testing. We are assisting the BCHD with a contact tracing investigation.

We will continue to monitor this situation and will notify staff and families immediately of any interruptions to the school schedule. We appreciate your patience and cooperation, as we know this is a serious matter of great concern to many of you.

September 28
The Johnson City Central School District has been working with the Broome County Health Department as we have received notification of a confirmed case of COVID-19 involving an employee at the high school. Please note the employee has not been on campus since September 17 and has not been in contact with school staff or students since that date.

Per New York State Department of Health guidelines, any person who was in contact with the confirmed case has been quarantined by the Broome County Health Department for up to 14 days. A contact tracing investigation took place, and the Broome County Health Department contacted anyone who may have been exposed.

September 24
The Johnson City Central School District has been working with the Broome County Health Department as we have received notification of a confirmed case of COVID-19 involving an employee. Please note the employee was not at school today.

Per New York State Department of Health guidelines, any person who was in contact with the confirmed case will be quarantined by the Broome County Health Department for up to 14 days. A contact tracing investigation is underway, and the Broome County Health Department will contact you if you were exposed. 

The district is continuing to follow strict cleaning protocols and affected areas have been cleaned. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to ensure the safety of everyone in our district.

September 14
The Johnson City Central School District has been working with the Broome County Health Department as we have received notification of a confirmed case of COVID-19 of an employee stemming from a community event. Please note the employee was not at school today. 

Per New York State Department of Health guidelines, any person who was in contact with the confirmed case will be quarantined by the Broome County Health Department for up to 14 days. A contact tracing investigation is underway, and the Broome County Health Department will contact you if you were exposed.

August 31

The Johnson City Central School District has been working with the Broome County Health Department as we have received notification of a confirmed case of COVID-19 involving an individual in the district. 

Per New York State Department of Health guidelines, any person who was in contact with the confirmed case will be contacted and quarantined by the Broome County Health Department for up to 14 days from the last day of contact with the positive case. A contact tracing investigation is underway, and the Broome County Health Department will contact you if you were exposed.


August 28
The Johnson City Central School District has been working with the Broome County Health Department as we have received notification of a sixth confirmed case of COVID-19 involving an employee of the district. The district was informed the employee has not been in the district during their infectious period.

Per New York State Department of Health guidelines, any person who was in contact with the confirmed case will be contacted and quarantined by the Broome County Health Department for up to 14 days from the last day of contact with the positive case. A contact tracing investigation is underway, and the Broome County Health Department will contact you if you were exposed. 

August 26
The Johnson City Central School District has been working with the Broome County Health Department as we have received notification of a fifth confirmed case of COVID-19 involving an employee of the district.

Per New York State Department of Health guidelines, any person who was in contact with the confirmed case will be contacted and quarantined by the Broome County Health Department for up to 14 days from the last day of contact with the positive case. A contact tracing investigation is underway, and the Broome County Health Department will contact you if you were exposed.

August  24
On August 24, the district was notified by the Department of Health of one additional positive case of COVID-19 involving an employee. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide any additional updates via our school website and district app.

August 23
The Johnson City School District has been working with the Broome County Department of Health (DOH) this weekend regarding three confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our district. In these discussions, we were advised any person who was within six feet of the positive individual(s) for 10 or more minutes be quarantined for up to 14 days per the recommendation of the DOH. Out of an abundance of caution, DOH health officials have conducted contract tracing with the staff members who may have been in contact with these individuals and have advised them on next steps. We will continue to monitor the situation and will notify staff immediately of any interruptions to the school schedule. We appreciate your patience and cooperation, as we know this is a serious matter of great concern to many of you. We will continue to provide additional updates via our COVID-19 Updates page and alerts on our district app.
 
August 21
On August 20, the New York State Department of Transportation, State Education Department and the Department of Health issued joint guidance on the use of hand sanitizers on school buses. CLICK TO READ 

August 20
On August 13, parents were notified via an email and phone message with information regarding filling out a Request For 100% Remote Learning survey. The message noted a deadline of Wednesday, August 19 to complete the survey. This deadline was created to provide the district enough time to prepare student schedules in readiness for the beginning of the school year. As of Thursday, August 20, the district will not accommodate further remote learning requests. Additional opportunities for full remote learning may be available at a later date. To be placed on a list, please contact your child's building.

August 13

August 12
The Johnson City Central School District will host three parent forums via WebEx regarding plans to reopen for the school year. The forums will be held Friday, August 14 at 2 p.m., Monday, August 17 at 10 a.m., and Tuesday, August 18 at 5 p.m. Please visit the district homepage at www.jcschools.com for access information.

Earlier today, the Governor announced that schools in New York state are authorized to open for the 2020-21 school year. In the coming weeks, The Johnson City Central School District will provide parents with details on a hybrid learning schedule and opportunities to ask questions. In addition, we will be unveiling a new COVID-19 weg page that will serve as a one-stop resource for reopening plans, school schedules, health and safety, and more. We thank our Wildcat Community for their continuous support of our plans and options as we work to provide safe and accessible environments for learning.
