Updated guidance from NYS Dept. of Health
Posted on 09/03/2021
COVIDOn September 2, the New York State Department of Health issued new guidance for classroom instruction for the 2021-22 academic school year for all schools in New York state based on recommendations from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

What does this mean for the district?

---Effective immediately, all P-12 schools will be required to implement weekly COVID-19 test screenings for all Johnson City instructional and non-instructional staff. Please note: Teachers and staff will have the opportunity to opt-out of mandatory weekly screenings if they provide documentation of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

---The district will be required to offer screening testing to unvaccinated students on a weekly basis.

---The district will be working in collaboration with the Broome County Department of Health to provide diagnostic testing for any student or staff who are: (a) symptomatic or (b) asymptomatic following an exposure to a positive COVID-19 case.

---The district will support opportunities for students and staff to access local COVID-19 vaccination clinics in collaboration with local health partners.

---All students, teachers and staff exhibiting new or worsening symptoms of COVID-19 must be excluded from school, regardless of vaccination status.

Please note the district is working diligently with the Broome County Department of Health to develop detailed plans based on the new guidance. We will continue to send out communications via the district website, district app and emails to provide any updates regarding these protocols.
