How can we, as rising authors, share our unique stories, ideas, and literacy skills outside our classroom walls and launch our work into the public sphere?
Our high school's English as a New Language (ENL) Bootcamp students answered this project-based learning question by taking complete ownership of their learning.
They researched literary contests, mapped out requirements, and created physical representations of their writing to share on the ENL classroom wall.
While every student in the bootcamp completed amazing work, we have two major achievements to celebrate:
Zamzam Abdalgafa entered the NYS Earth Day Contest and received an official certificate of recognition from Senator Lea Webb.
Doha Mustafa submitted a poem to the Young Writer USA's Pet Poetry contest, won, and will be a published author in a book coming out this August.
"We are proud of the dedication, bravery, and voice shown by every student in this cohort," said ENL teacher Sarah Alexander.
