SkillsUSAWhen junior Giovanna Caminiti joined the Broome-Tioga BOCES chapter of SkillsUSA in her freshman year, she wasn't quite sure what she was signing up for. But, in three short years, she has flourished and will soon be representing New York as a SkillsUSA State Officer.

What is SkillsUSA, you ask? It is a workforce development organization for students that encourages its members to work and better themselves for the future as they become skilled professionals.

When Giovanna was a freshman, she took on the elected role of vice president. The following year, she was elected as secretary, and this year she has served as president. Most recently, and with great enthusiasm, Giovanna campaigned to become a state officer for SkillsUSA and gave a speech in front of a 50-person House of Delegates on why she was the best candidate for the position. BOCES approved her request, and she, along with a team of nine other state officers from across the state, will be representing New York at a training in Atlanta, Georgia, in June, while also being in charge of several conferences and events. As a state officer, Giovanna looks forward to the opportunity to grow and meet new people.
