Operation Egg Drop

Grade 8 science classes participate in egg drop challenge
Posted on 02/02/2022
egg dropElisabeth Haller’s 8th-grade science class learned about the various impacts involved in an auto accident.
1. The vehicle’s impact with an immovable object
2. The impact of the driver within the vehicle
3. The impact of the driver’s organs inside their body.

To put the concept to the test, students took an egg (representing the driver), placed it in a container with plenty of creative packing (representing the vehicle) and dropped it from a height to the pavement (representing the immovable object). The goal was to hopefully find an unbroken egg (driver) with an intact yoke (organs). With the help of a Johnson City Fire Department truck, Ms. Haller individually dropped the students’ projects from the truck’s elevated bucket. Despite many broken eggs and yokes, one egg and a few yokes survived the fall unscathed!

Thank you to the Johnson City Fire Department for participating in the project!
