Middle school chorus members meet a composer

The students participated in a virtual visit in music teacher Mr. Logvis' classroom with Mr. James M. DesJardins and learned about his extensive background in the field of music. Earlier this school year, our chorus members performed one of Mr. DesJardins’ most popular original compositions, entitled “Storm,” at their spring concert in April.

During today’s visit, the chorus members asked him whether he had taken music classes in high school, if he had decided to become a composer at a young age, and who his favorite composer was. (It’s Beethoven.)

DesJardins earned his Bachelor’s degree in music from SUNY College at Buffalo, his Master’s degree from SUNY College at Fredonia, and specialized certifications from the University of St. Thomas and SUNY Buffalo. He has been teaching music for 13 years in Western New York and is a registered ‘Music Together’ teacher.

He mentioned that he enjoys crafting original choral compositions for younger students and has served as a composer-in-residence for the Buffalo Niagara Youth Chorus.

We thank Mr. DesJardins for taking the time out of his busy schedule to meet our young chorus members today.
