We have some exciting alumni news!
We recently learned that Class of 2017 alumnus Dionne “DJ” Hendricks has made his Broadway debut! DJ is currently serving as one of the conductors for the Tony and Grammy award-winning musical “Hadestown,” a story that intertwines two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and Queen Persephone — as it invites audiences on an unforgettable journey to the underworld and back. In his critical role as conductor, DJ also plays the piano and accordion.
Prior to conducting the show on Broadway, DJ served as the associate music director of the national tours of “Hadestown” and “Come From Away.”
DJ’s musical accolades have been numerous. After earning his Master’s degree in writing and production for musical theater from the Berklee College of Music, he performed as a solo pianist in many settings, including cabarets, jazz gigs, and recording sessions. He has toured the country as a music director and conducted the show “A Wonderful World” in New Orleans and Chicago and “Ella, First Lady of Song” in Detroit. For “Ella,” he received the prestigious Audelco Award for Outstanding Musical Director.
We are thrilled that DJ has achieved his ultimate goal of making it to Broadway, and look forward to following his continuing musical journey!
