BC Health Dept. provides free bike helmets for all 5th graders

Members of the Broome County Health Department's Traffic Safety Education Program visited the elementary school's P.E. classes today to educate our 5th-graders on the safety and necessity of wearing a bike helmet when riding a bike. To the students' surprise, every 5th-grader (nearly 200!) was provided with a free bike helmet and fitting! Johnson City Community Engagement Officer Jay Peets was also on hand to inform the students that if they are seen wearing a bike helmet while riding their bike in the community, a JC Police Officer may provide them with a certificate for a free small ice cream to Sugar Lips Ice Cream Shop, located on Riverside Drive.
