This is the image for the news article titled Superintendent's Feb. 28 message regarding mask mandateDear Johnson City School Community,

Governor Hochul recently announced she has lifted the New York state mask mandate for schools. This will begin this Wednesday, March 2. The decision was based on the new Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidance.

Although individual counties can still impose a mask mandate, the Broome County Health Department and County Executive Jason Garner have notified all Broome County schools that there is currently no intention of making that decision.

In addition, on Friday, February 25, the CDC issued revised guidance which clarifies that the TSA mask mandate for public transportation no longer applies to public schools.

Therefore, effective Wednesday, March 2, masks will be optional in all Johnson City Central School District buildings and buses. Those who wish to continue to wear a mask can do so at their own discretion. We do not want to discourage anyone from wearing one, and it is important that we are respectful of one another's decisions.

I would like to thank our students, staff and the entire Wildcat community for their diligence, patience and support throughout the pandemic as we continue to follow the guidelines and requirements of New York state and our local health department.
