Eighth-grade students conduct Biology Research Symposium with Binghamton University mentors

Our middle school students in Michelle Polcaro’s Biology class had the opportunity to collaborate with PhD students from Binghamton University this school year and work on research projects in and out of the classroom. On May 30, the groups held a Biology Research Symposium in the middle school library to present their research findings from the previous months. This year’s topics focused on the early blooming of invasive plants and how they interact with native species, as well as the color preferences of Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches.
We thank Binghamton University for once again collaborating with our Johnson City Middle School students to mentor, encourage critical thinking, and provide engaging research opportunities outside the classroom.
