The middle school recently celebrated another successful year of working together with our mentors from Binghamton University.
In collaboration with BU’s Center for Civic Engagement and under the coordination of Graduate Assistant Asha Philip for the past two years, the mentorship program paired 23 BU volunteers with 26 of our middle school students. In addition to the mentoring program, the volunteers provided daily push-in classroom support for students and staff in the K-8 Building.
The mentors have seen firsthand that consistency is key to a successful program. By showing up week after week, these mentors provided more than just help with homework; they built lasting bonds that support our students’ social and emotional growth. From creative arts and crafts to active time on the playground, these regular interactions created memories and safe connections for our students, giving them the steady encouragement they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom.
