Anti-Bullying message for elementary students

Empathy and bullying awareness lessons in 4th and 5th grade
Posted on 04/28/2025
icebergAt the end of March, our 4th and 5th grade students participated in an important lesson focused on empathy and bullying, led by Katie Doyle, our 4–5 Social Worker, and Jackie Cash, our 4–5 Assistant Principal.

Ms. Doyle introduced students to the concept of empathy through a powerful video and a metaphor of an iceberg—reminding students that just like an iceberg, much of what a person is going through lies beneath the surface. This helped students understand the importance of showing kindness and understanding to others, even when we don’t know what they may be experiencing.

Building on that foundation, Mrs. Cash led a discussion about bullying, including cyberbullying, and the lasting impact it can have. Students explored how empathy plays a key role in recognizing and responding to bullying behaviors. To wrap up the lesson, all students were invited to sign a pledge committing to stand up against bullying and to be a positive force in our school community.

We’re proud of the thoughtful conversations our students had and their commitment to making our school a safe and supportive place for everyone.
