Esports Coach of the YearThe Johnson City Central School District is proud to announce that high school staff member and Esports coach Andrew Thompson has been named National Esports Coach of the Year by PlayVS. The designation was announced live online during the PlayVS Cup finals on June 3. Mr. Thompson was one of only five candidates nominated for Coach of the Year, and results were based on online voting that took place May 25-27.

PlayVS is North America’s leading scholastic and collegiate Esports and gaming and curriculum platform, helping students unlock the many benefits of competitive gaming at every level. Its community brings together players, coaches, and educators to compete, connect, and grow through gaming.

"I'd like to thank my community, my school and my students for getting the vote out and supporting me,” said Thompson. “I also want to thank the Empire State Scholastic Esports Federation teams and coaches for giving the athletes opportunities to compete at the State level. And most of all, PlayVS for giving me the opportunity to coach and shape my students into great athletes and amazing people."

As a result of his win, Mr. Thompson will receive a Sony multimedia gaming setup and a custom gaming chair, courtesy of PlayVS sponsor Respawn.

Johnson City High School’s Esports Club helps students build relationships with others who share the same hobby and gives them the opportunity to compete against peers in Esports tournaments and school-run events.
