Civics FairOn Thursday afternoon, Johnson City High School hosted its second annual “Citizens in Action” Civics Fair in the large cafeteria.

Students enrolled in the Citizens in Action elective class shared their research projects focused on community issues of interest. This year’s topics included suggestions for enhancing the district’s after-school programs to help young learners, understanding teen mental health, substance use disorder resources, and solutions for New York’s voter turnout. The students compiled much of their data based on interviews with students, staff members, local politicians, and experts in their field of research.

Citizens in Action is co-taught by Participation in Government teacher Judy Gleason and English teacher Dr. Donna Geetter and is designed to usher students through the rigorous and rewarding process of earning the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness.
