Ten of our 6th-grade science students participated in an App Challenge today, coordinated by Broome-Tioga BOCES. Students from Susquehanna Valley, Maine-Endwell, Newark Valley, Binghamton, and Johnson City presented their projects via Zoom to a panel of local judges from academic, software and entrepreneurial fields.
Each JC team shared an online presentation and a short commercial and spoke about their original app concepts focused on managing mental and physical health, with tools to manage stress and anxiety and improve wellness.
The primary goal of the challenge was to inspire students to explore STEAM, coding, and computer science.
On March 9, the top five area teams will be invited to an awards dinner.
A big thank you to JC Middle School Science Teacher Mrs. Darling for guiding our teams through the development of their projects. Well done, Tartel Ahmed, Leah Doski, LezRay Johnson, David Diaz, Jr., Abel Serrano, Catherine Hrywnak, Alexa Smallze, Ary Mohammed, William Kienzler, and Kyler Blackham!
