On February 19, a group of our 8th-graders took a field trip to Broome-Tioga BOCES this week to learn about its P-TECH program. The students had the opportunity to meet representatives from SUNY Broome Community College in computer technology, engineering technology, and health studies. They also flew drones, met with students from P-TECH Engineering and even participated in fun activities such as constructing paper airplanes and playing Health Jenga.
Eighth-graders who are selected to attend the six-year P-TECH program (grades 8-14) work in a project-based, high-tech learning environment created to simulate real-world problem solving and creativity. Students graduate from high school with several college credits and are supported throughout their college experience.
Summer enrichment and employment opportunities are important components of the program.
