BOCES conducted a regional “Seal of Biliteracy Presentation Day” this week which featured approximately 40 high school students from six area districts who presented their final presentation to a panel in order to earn a Seal of Biliteracy on their diploma. There were presentations in 12 different languages and school and community partners who speak those languages evaluated the students’ presentations.

Johnson City High School participants Elizabeth Akulis, Kara Anderson,Nikolina Cejic and Fatima Larbi successfully obtained their Seal of Biliteracy. Three of the students individually presented on a topic of their choice in Spanish while one presented in her second language - English. Topics were required to have a cultural component.

This is the first year for the regional event in our area. It is hoped that this event and recognition for students who are proficient in more than one language will grow in the future.
