Mike Moran was one of the key players in the Johnson City athletic dynasty of the early 80’s.  He was a three-year starter on the football team and a four-year starter on both the baseball and basketball teams.  Mike continued his success in college athletics and would return to JC to coach all of the sports he played.

From 1981-1983, Johnson City dominated Section IV athletics in football, basketball, and baseball, and Mike Moran was a big reason why.  The Wildcats were section IV football champions in all three years that Mike was on the team.  He was an All-STAC, All Metro, and All State performer in his junior and senior seasons.  Success followed Mike to the basketball court where his teams won division, STAC, and Section IV titles during his four varsity seasons.  He was an All-STAC, All-Metro, and All-State performer in basketball during his junior and senior seasons and he set a section IV record for most points by a freshman with a 27 point outing during the 1980 season.  Mike’s baseball teams capped his amazing career by winning two Section IV titles in both 1982 and 1983.  He again was an All-STAC and All-State performer in baseball for his junior and senior seasons.  These athletic accomplishments led to Mike being inducted into the Section IV Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993.

Mike attended the University of Massachusetts on a football scholarship after graduating from JC.  He played four years of football for UMASS and he was part of two Yankee Conference championship teams in 1984 and 1986.  Mike would go on to coach at UMASS for three seasons after receiving his undergraduate degree in 1987.  He then returned to Johnson City to teach physical education and coach football, basketball, and baseball.  He spent 10 years on the football coaching staff at all levels, 8 years coaching modified basketball and 6 years coaching modified baseball.  Mike attained his administrative degree while teaching at JC and he is now an Assistant Principal at Jennie F. Snapp middle school in the Union-Endicott school district.

The Johnson City Athletic Hall of Fame is proud to welcome another outstanding three sport athlete, Mike Moran, JCHS class of 1983.
