JC Music Department is 2008 GRAMMY Finalist

Mr. Carbone, JC Music Coordinator, recently announced at the Winter Concerts that once again, our Music Program was nominated for another GRAMMY Signature Award. If awarded, this will be the 6th time that the Johnson City School District Music Program has been recognized with this very prestigious honor.

The GRAMMY Signature School award is given out by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Foundation, Inc. The designation is based on the results of a questionnaire outlining the course offerings of the Music Program as well as a review of audio and videotapes that were submitted. These tapes are required to contain representative examples of the school's orchestra, band, and vocal music performing groups as well as copies of programs presented by the music department during the school year.

The applications are scored and ranked and the top 100 highest scoring schools (finalists) are then invited to submit supplemental materials. A screening committee adjudicates the recorded materials. Up to 40 schools are then selected as a GRAMMY Signature School. The selection is to occur in April 2008.

Johnson City is the only public school in America to have received this award 5 times.

The Award Winning Johnson City Music Department
will now travel around with a new look

On Saturday December 15th, Alan Hoffman (JC Band Dad), Dave Ciotolli and Joe Rusin (friends of Alan), and several JC Band Dads worked all day to transform the music equipment trailer into its new identity  – one that will be seen by thousands of people on the streets and highways as we travel and it will help promote the professional image of our nationally recognized Music Program.

It will serve notice that the Music Wildcats are on the prowl again and send a message to let other people know that the Johnson City Music Department has arrived in their community.
